5 Spots for Guacamole in California

Sept. 16 marks National Guacamole Day! Whether you love a traditional guacamole or are open to a fruit-topped variety, it’s time to grab some chips, tequila and dig in at these five California-based restaurants.

Los Angeles-based (and celebrity-loved) Petty Cash is known for its fresh, flavor-packed guacamole (as well as its cauliflower nachos!) Lucky for us, Chef Walter Manzke isn’t keeping the guacamole recipe to himself (check it out here: pettycashtaqueria.com).

3rd Base LA on the Sunset Strip offers an upscale sports-lounge experience and is widely known for its 3rd Base Nachos. The lounge’s signature vertically stacked nachos are comprised of spicy queso, cilantro crema, pico de gallo, black beans, charred corn, diner’s choice of grilled chicken or steak and a generous helping of house-made guacamole.

Cha Cha’s Latin Kitchen

The Latin-inspired menu at Cha Cha’s Latin Kitchen, which has locations in Brea and Irvine, spotlights expertly crafted guacamole on its appetizer lineup. Cha Cha’s guac features Hass avocado, serrano chile (for a touch of heat), fresh lime juice, tortilla chips and fire-roasted tomato and tomatillo salsas. PS: Sit at the bar or high-top tables to catch Cha Cha’s happy hour on National Guacamole Day (Sept. 16) and enjoy $2 off the guacamole appetizer.

At its outposts in Newport Beach and Playa Vista, SOL Mexican Cocina whips up two tasty types of guacamole that stray from the traditional style. Guacamole Granada is made with pomegranate seeds, green apple, spiced salted peanuts and cotija cheese and is served with beet chips, while Guacamole SOL is crafted with mango, tequila, onions, goat cheese, pepitas and cilantro.

Diners at either the Huntington Beach or Valencia locations of Solita are invited to dig into a hearty helping of Guacamole Solita, served in a fried tortilla bowl with mango, serrano pepper, tomato, onion and cilantro.
