Fab Mixologists & Bartenders

Amanda Greenbaum | @sommthing.rad

As a certified sommelier, certified mixologist, cicerone certified beer server and winemaker, you could say that Amanda Greenbaum is a really an expert in all things related to spirits and adult beverages—especially in California. With her own wine, AJA Vineyards, her stake as a co-founder in the world’s top wine and spirits competition for millennials and a book (aptly titled Rad Cocktails), Greenbaum as quite literally poured her passion for mixology into a full-time career.

Best part of working in California’s mixology scene? California, specifically Southern California, is the second most popular scene for mixology in the country (second to Manhattan) which means there is not only a massive selection of liquors to try, but also there are so many mixologists to learn from! People in the LA mixology community are really passionate about their craft, and if you express your interest in, and passion for mixology, you’ll easily meet a ton of people from whom you can learn. I always get to taste new cocktails and learn from new mixologists fun tips, tricks and recipes.

Your go-to drink to make and why? My go-to is my classic margarita. I feel like I’ve really perfected the proportions to the point where people are always satisfied. Too often I’ve come across really nasty margaritas that have too much tequila or are way too sugary.

Best advice to an aspiring bartender or mixologist? If you want to learn about mixology, I’d honestly start by researching on social media. Since the pandemic, so many at-home bartenders have sprung up and there are unique recipes you can try at home, and videos you can watch teaching you about mixology and craft. Do not hesitate to reach out to creators, bartenders in your area or professionals in the industry. It’s a small community, and we welcome each other with open arms. You can also check out my book, Rad Cocktails (available on Amazon, Walmart, Target, Etsy and more), which will really help you get started with tons of tips on stocking your bar, getting the right bar materials and several classic and original recipes!
