Sir Bruno Serato
Executive Director Board Member at Large at Caterina’s Club
Named one of CNN’s 10 Heroes of the Year, Sir Bruno Serato is not only a world-renowned chef, but also a global humanitarian through his nonprofit Caterina’s Club—a SoCal-based organization with a mission to provide warm meals, affordable housing assistance, and job training to homeless and low-income families.
Through the nonprofit’s work, 5,005 vulnerable children receive a meal every night at 104 sites throughout LA and Orange Counties; 240 families have been placed in permanent housing in safe neighborhoods through the Welcome Home program; and 600-plus teens have trained through the Hospitality Academy at four Anaheim High Schools.
What motivates you to pursue this kind of philanthropy? Growing up poor and seeing people help my family made me want to start to give back to others.
You’re an inspiration to so many — who has most inspired you? Mamma Caterina and Mother Teresa.
Best advice for someone looking to give back and get involved in their community: Look around your backyard—you’re always going to find someone in need to help.
What impact do you most hope to leave on the world? To teach others that no child should go to bed hungry.
