Fabulous Eco-Winemakers: Part 1

Adelaida Vineyards - Jeremy Weintraub eco winemakers

Jeremy Weintraub of Adelaida Vineyards & Winery

Tell us about the sustainable and eco-friendly practices at the vineyard: Adelaida’s devotion and love for the land is continually demonstrated by organic vineyard practices (CCOF certified vineyards and orchards), solar energy use, water and habitat preservation, and respect for the property. Currently, Adelaida produces most of its energy needs from its own solar farm and dry farms the majority of its vineyards. Less than 10 percent of Adelaida’s 1,800 acres are planted to vineyards and more than 1,000 acres of land remain undeveloped and unfenced for ecological and wild animal habitat. Adelaida Vineyards was a forerunner in the ecology movement, and today continues to be a model for excellence in the industry.

Tell us about the varietals you make: Adelaida’s seven meticulous vineyards span across distinct areas of mountainous terrain characterized by chalk-rock limestone soils and afternoon blasts of cool coastal air. These unique and varied locations lead to specifically designated grape varietals, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, Counoise, Syrah, Chardonnay and more.
