Hometown: Escondido, CA.
First job: Pastry chef at George’s at the Cove. I interned here as a part of my graduation requirements for the California Institute of the Arts.
Favorite ways to spend your free time in CA: I spend most of my free time eating my way around San Diego. My boyfriend and I are always looking for a new restaurant to try.
Your biggest accomplishment and why: Working my way up to my position at George’s. I never could have imagined being able to create desserts for such an important restaurant.
The biggest obstacle you overcame: Getting through culinary school. Lab classes in the kitchen were fun and a breeze, but the general education discouraged me. I dropped out for a year but ultimately decided to go back, power through, and get the degree I had worked so hard for.
Someone who inspires you and why: My mom. She’s so strong, and she puts everyone first. I’ve never met someone as loving and supportive as her. She’s my No. 1 fan in everything I do.
Advice to someone pursuing a career path in what you do: Listen. Listen to your chefs and coworkers. I’ve learned so much from the people around me. Don’t be afraid to take advice from anyone who will give it.
Favorite quote: “It always seems impossible until it’s done.”—Nelson Mandela
Something someone would be surprised to learn about you: I wouldn’t say anything is surprising about me—I am openly myself.
What makes someone fabulous: Being unapologetically yourself and not blending into norms. It’s so important to be true to yourself.
