Baar Baar Los Angeles Opens

Set to revolutionize the Indian dining scene in Downtown Los Angeles, Baar Baar Los Angeles will showcase New Indian cuisine and vibrant artisanal cocktails.

After finding success with its first location in New York City, Baar Baar Los Angeles debuted in early May, offering Los Angeles locals a true taste of authentic Indian cuisine with the help of Chef Sujan Sarkar at the helm. Chef Sakar brings a contemporary approach to the traditional fare and aims to create the cuisine he once had while growing up in Kolkata. The nostalgic flavor fuses with modern techniques Chef Sakar developed from working and creating leading kitchens worldwide.

Inspired by the vibrancy of India, Baar Baar Los Angeles offers a colorful design with notes of teals, yellows and leather and velvet textures. Floor-to-ceiling windows breathe life into the airy space, while a variety of murals adorn the walls by muralist Jessica Kollar. The dining room also houses a 50-ft. bar with 15 high-top chairs and communal seating for enjoying cocktails and lighter plates.

The fare lineup will change with the season, focusing on utilizing only California’s best produce. Guests can expect to enjoy a multitude of new Indian cuisine, including Cauliflower 65, with carrot pachadi, peanut thecha, pickled kumquat and curry leaf; monkfish osso bucco crafted with millet khichdi and rhubarb achar; and mushroom pepper fry with sunchoke salan, smoked almond and ramps. Other familiar favorites include dishes like Baar Baar butter chicken and chicken malai tikka.

To top off the savory plates, opt for a sweet treat, with two options including the mango ghewar, a crisp Rajasthani dessert with a honeycomblike texture made with thandai cassata, mascarpone mousse, mango jelly and pistachio; or carrot halwa cake with malai ice cream, phirni mousse and edible gold.

Ek Bar, an Indian artisanal cocktail bar curated by Chef Sujan, offers libations inspired by Bollywood film classics in addition to a wine cellar. Cocktails include Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge with tequila, tamarind, aged balsamic, blackberry syrup and soda; Lagaan, with gin, honeydew, kale, Midori and egg white; and Old Monk Rum, with crème de cacao, chocolate, coffee bitters and milk wash.

Baar Baar Los Angeles is open Tuesday through Sunday from 5 to 11 p.m.
