Coursey Graves Winery Now Fully Complete in Sonoma Valley

Coursey Graves invites wine enthusiasts to embark on a journey into the heart of Bennett Mountain in Sonoma Valley. Though the tasting room opened in 2019, the property is now fully complete, with rolling vineyards and enchanting French-style gardens.

Developed over the course of eight years by the visionary duo John Graves and Cabell Coursey, this Santa Rosa winery is more than a tasting room. Guests are greeted by a landscape that seems to have been plucked from a Monet painting, with vibrant florals surrounding the signature pond. Complete with a handmade bridge and boat, the pond attracts a plethora of wildlife, adding a touch of magic to the already mesmerizing scenery. Red-tail hawks, egrets, jackrabbits, bobcats and coyotes coexist in this ecosystem, providing a truly unique experience.

“When we first walked the property together, we knew it had the potential to be spectacular,” says Graves, owner of Coursey Graves, in a recent press release. “Cabell and I saw the bones of what we have carefully restored and revitalized today – rugged hills, natural volcanic rock and breathtaking views. Given his extensive knowledge of winemaking and his deep understanding of the property itself, I was confident we’d be able to bring his vision to life. Today, we’re thrilled to share the culmination of our work and invite you to enjoy it with us.”

To truly grasp the essence of Coursey Graves wines, visitors are encouraged to partake in the estate experience. The 90-minute signature tasting involves a guided stroll through hillside vineyards, charming gardens and the working boutique winery. Guests then unwind in a private area, savoring a selection of wines while absorbing the panoramic views of Bennett Valley. Wine Club members can elevate their experience on a private tasting deck overlooking the Merlot vineyard.

“The style of our wine is a testament to the environment we’ve curated here on the mountaintop,” says Coursey, winemaker at Coursey Graves, in a press release. “We focus on plush and opulent French varietals that benefit from our temperate climate, cool evening winds and high elevation.”

This year marks the harvest of Coursey Graves’ ninth bottled vintage. Grapes are sourced from the Bennett Mountain Estate, consciously farmed sites on the Sonoma Coast and several renowned Napa Valley AVAs, including Howell Mountain and Oakville. The tasting menu includes the 2019 Bennett Estate Blend, 2019 Napa Valley Cabernet, 2019 Syrah and 2021 Chardonnay.

“This year, our grapes have had more time to develop complex flavors, which will allow their unique characteristics to develop. They’ll be fruity with purity and freshness – and can be enjoyed right away or will age beautifully,” Coursey says. “Our goal is to protect the unique characteristics of our grapes and preserve what this exceptional terroir brings to our fruit.”
