The Golden Bull Bar Reopens in Oakland

The Golden Bull—a buzzy, Oakland-based bar and music venue that counts Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day as one of its owners—has officially reopened to the public after over a year of closure due to the pandemic.

Throughout the past year, The Bull has managed to maintain some stake within the local community through the offering of sidewalk service, which helped the venue to survive in spite of its on-going indoor closure. Now, the lively spot is fully reopened and ready to embrace customers once again.

The Golden Bull has long boasted a reputation for offering an incomparable environment that’s elevated by a full bar—complete with an expansive craft beer and cocktail menu—along with live bands and DJs, pool and a neon-drenched indoor space that pays homage to the music scene of the late 80’s.

In June of 2019—just 10 months before the COVID-19 pandemic shut down all local bars and restaurants—four partners had purchased The Golden Bull, including musicians: Jason Beebout of Samiam, Bill Schneider of Pinhead Gunpowder and Dead Sound, Mark W. Lynn of Dear County and Dead Sound, and Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day. Each of the artists have extensive experience working within the music and entertainment industry, and have undoubtedly helped to add another element of authenticity to the already vibrant space.

Almost two years after the partners’ original purchase of the space, the four owners are now eager to reintroduce the bar and restaurant into Oakland’s nightlife and music scene. As such, locals can anticipate several celebratory events that are planned for the coming weeks and weekends.

While there’s no timeline for when concerts and live music performances will be back at full capacity, The Golden Bull will continue serving up delicious cocktails and light bites in the meantime.

The Golden Bull Bar is open Tuesday through Wednesday from 4 p.m. to midnight, Thursday through Saturday from 4 p.m. to 2 p.m., and Sunday from 4 p.m. to midnight. For more information, visit
