A Weekend in…Funner

If you’re looking to have more fun, there’s only one place to go: Funner. Driving through the mountains in North San Diego County onto the Rincon Reservation, you will find an oasis that proves Funner is more than a place–it’s a state of mind. From the splashes around the swim-up bar to the whirling sounds of their more than 1,500 slot machines and table games on the casino floor, everything about Harrah’s Resort Southern California encourages you to have more fun.

After a weekend at the resort, we present the best things to eat, drink and do at Harrah’s Resort SoCal so that you have a even Funner time than you could ever imagine.

The Rooms

Harrah’s Resort SoCal offers a variety of suites to choose from, with each feeling like luxurious home away from home. We slept soundly in our comfortable, spacious Sweet Suite accommodations, which also had modern decor, a large bathroom with a large tub (with jets!), a rain shower and his and hers sinks that definitely expedited the getting-ready process.

The Pool

Outside of Harrah’s Resort SoCal, you’ll find the area’s first swim-up bar, an adults-only pool and a lazy river that’s open to all ages. Upon arriving, we quickly realized that ordering your poolside cocktail in a Harrah’s SoCal tumbler is much more fun than a boring old clear plastic cup. You can enjoy discounts with the tumbler during your stay and keep it as a souvenir when you leave. We also suggest grabbing a group of four people to participate in a shotski, which was definitely one of the top five highlights of our trip!

For those who prefer non-alcoholic drinks, Funner’s newly elected mayor–actress and comedian Jane Lynch–helped develop special mocktails so that everyone can enjoy a flavorful drink on their vacation.

The Food

We’re not sure what we enjoyed more: the drinks or the food. We could have eaten at Fiore steakhouse every night of our stay. We started with a bed of decadent oysters for our appetizer and moved on to steak for our main event. Our steaks were cooked perfectly and accompanied by tasty and generous sides to complete our meal. ‘ritas Cantina offers casual, flavorful Mexican food in its sit-down restaurant and out of a stationary food truck, if you prefer to grab and go. We also enjoyed the extremely popular KJ Chinese Restaurant, where we feasted on authentic Chinese cuisine.

Hell’s Kitchen

Infamous celebrity chef Gordon Ramsey is set to open the largest Hell’s Kitchen restaurant location in the country inside Harrah’s Resort SoCal. Expected to open in Summer 2022, the new Hell’s Kitchen will feature a large main dining area, two chef’s tables and two private dining areas for hosting events. A towering wine wall with exceptional vintages and a gorgeous mosaic behind the open kitchen represents the teams of fire and ice that are featured on the hit TV show. We were treated to a sneak peek of the new restaurant and can confirm that space is sure to be iconic.

The Spa

After long days in the sun and late nights at the tables, everyone could use some r-n-r at The Spa at Harrah’s. We suggest getting there at least 45 minutes before your appointment to enjoy the steam room, sauna and salt bath. We enjoyed summery Orange Blossom Massages that made us feel like whole new people. The resort’s wellness offerings are rounded out with a fitness center and a nature trail, which has great bird-watching, to boot.
