Memorial Day Weekend Events in Southern California 2024

As Memorial Day weekend approaches, Southern California is gearing up to honor the nation’s fallen heroes while embracing the (un)official start of summer with the following events. 

May 23 to May 27: Memorial Day Weekend at The Grand Del Mar  

San Diego

Kick off the long weekend in style at The Grand Del Mar in San Diego. This stunning resort is hosting a plethora of activities for the holiday weekend, including enchanting swims with mermaids, bubble art, poolside eats, refreshing craft sips, ice cream socials, pirate lessons, archery, poolside movies, live music and more fun for the whole family. These exciting activations lead up to the the grand Garden Party finale, taking place on Sunday, May 26, from 3 to 8 p.m. with lawn games, activities, a concert, sweet treats, indulgent fare and more. 
Cost: General admission for the Garden Party is $20 per person. Other activities are for resort guests only. 

May 24 to May 26: Memorial Day Weekend at Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort

Newport Beach

Dive into summer at Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort in Newport Beach as it hosts a grand Memorial Day weekend celebration in Southern California with an assortment of fun for all ages. This includes time on the water with the newly expanded inflatable water park, live music entertainment, movies on the beach, grilled staples from Moe B’s Munchies (think hamburgers, hot dogs and pizza) and more fun in the sun. 
Cost: The inflatable Aquatic Park is $15 for resort guests and $20 for park visitors. Most activities, including movies on the beach, are free and open to both resort guests and locals.

Mission Bay

Make a splash this holiday weekend in Mission Bay at a Memorial Day weekend event in Southern California hosted by Campland on the Bay and Mission Bay RV Resort. This sun-kissed bash will feature waterfront fun for all ages, including live music, watersport rentals, pickleball tournaments, arts and crafts, fare from Campland Cantina and more to honor the long weekend.

San Diego

Join the party with the Massive Memorial Day Weekend Bar Crawl in San Diego, where the drinks are flowing and the energy is high. Explore the vibrant nightlife scene of Southern California as you hop from one bar to the next with fellow revelers from 9 p.m. to 2:20 a.m. With drink specials, live music and a lively atmosphere, this bar crawl promises a night to remember.
Cost: Prices vary but start at $15 per person or $25 for a couple (21-and-over only). 

Vista Strawberry Festival

For a berry exciting Memorial Day weekend in Southern California, check out the Vista Strawberry Festival, a local favorite with fun taking place from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Downtown Vista Village. This event has something sweet in store for everyone, from contests, kid’s play zones, live entertainment and art to a 5K run, strawberry film festival and, of course, all the strawberries your heart and stomach can take. 
Cost: Free, subject to purchases. 

May 26: Miramar National Cemetery Memorial Ceremony 

San Diego

Pay tribute to the armed forces this Memorial Day weekend at the Miramar National Cemetery from 1 to 2 p.m. This Memorial Day weekend event in Southern California is a special program to remember and honor past members of the service and commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day. This event will feature presentations and speeches from keynote speakers, including Dr. Gregory A. Daddis, a retired U.S. Army member who is now the Director of the SDSU Center of War and Society.
Cost: Free and open to the public. 

Fort Rosecrans Annual Bouquet Ride

May 27: Fort Rosecrans Annual Bouquet Ride

San Diego

Another opportunity to honor military service members will occur at Fort Rosecrans Annual Bouquet Ride, taking place at Fort Rosecrans Cemetery from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This event will honor fallen soldiers and their families as participants ride their bikes from California Bicycle in La Jolla to Fort Rosecrans Cemetery, where flowers will be laid on graves, including CPL Gregory Millard (AKA Shortie), who inspired the annual event. 
Cost: Free, donation-based.
