Town and Country San Diego

A color-drenched retro surf-inspired resort in San Diego since the 1950’s, Town and Country features all the makings of a memorable summer escape: a massive pool, a twisty waterslide, crazy-good seafood, towering palms and pretty cocktails. Like a scene out of a Beach Boys’ song, it’s only good vibes at this landmark stay.

Stepping into Town and Country in San Diego feels like taking a step back in time, in the best possible way. From the mid-century-modern lobby to the gorgeous murals that decorate the sides of the buildings down to the staff’s 70’s-inspired tunics, Town and Country is fun and funky, with details to appreciate at every turn.

Town and Country lobby

The spacious rooms offer just as much attention to detail. There are a variety of room types to choose from, including two-story bungalows with private courtyards and suites with a wet bar, a living area and a private terrace with cabana. And everyone in the family with adore the cool black-and-white surfer murals that cover the bedrooms walls.

The centerpiece of Town and Country is undoubtedly the large, oval-shaped, zero-entry family pool. Here, kids can work up a good night’s sleep spending hours going down the twisty, four-story waterslide, which is overseen by lifeguards. Nearby, a small children’s pool offers just enough depth for the resort’s tiniest guests to splash around safely. The enjoy the pool in utmost luxury, book a cabana, which is decked with a comfy loveseat, chairs, loungers, an electrical outlet, water bottles and an over-the-top fruit platter. Some are closer to the pool for parents to keep a watchful eye on their kiddos; others are more removed if guests prefer more privacy and quietude.

ARLO patio

Because an action-packed (or completely free of action that isn’t picking up a book and sipping a cocktail) day at the pool requires plenty of delicious fuel, Town and County has that in spades. First, ARLO opened its doors less than a year ago and specializes in fresh, flavorful, from-scratch fare that’ll satisfy all your senses. (Get the octopus and scallops.) For a tasty grab-and-go breakfast, like a melty ham and cheese croissant, and an iced latte or fresh juice, pop by MRKT, and order lunch poolside at Lap It Up. You can’t miss it; Thelma, the retro light-up swimmer, graces the top of the building. Happy hour calls for a trip to Monkey Bar, the indoor-outdoor bar found in the hotel lobby. Order the tropical Drunken Monkey cocktail (complete with edible flowers) or elegant Don Draper and a salty-savory Spaniard flatbread, with chorizo, manchego cheese, piquillo peppers and Spanish capers.

Late this summer, Town and Country is set to debut Lapper, a sports bar-esque dining spot with Palm Springs-meets-San Diego vibes. Lapper will have an expansive poolside patio, indoor and outdoor games, TV’s, casual eats and local craft beer, all in one poolside spot.
