The Los Angeles Design Festival

The Los Angeles Design Festival returns Thursday, June 22, to Sunday, June 25, with a vibrant slate of events including studio tours, panel discussions, curated exhibitions, experiential installations, pop-ups, and a block party.
Under the new leadership of Executive Creative Director Erika Abrams, this year’s theme is “Design for the People” and emphasizes the voices of creatives and designers from all backgrounds and practices. LADF 2023 will be headquartered at ROW DTLA and Helms Bakery District in West L.A., along with an outpost in Long Beach and independent events throughout the city.
Highlights include: Not-to-miss is the Friday night Block Party at ROW DTLA to kick off this year’s festival, as well as (events are free unless otherwise noted):
Sympathetic Resonance by Lachlan Turczan (ROW) – A sensory journey that explores the hypnotic relationship between sound, light and water. As viewers approach the sculptures and navigate the space, their movements are reflected in infrasonic tones that form wave patterns on the water’s surface.
MDAP Neurofeedback Project (ROW) – Musician, composer and creative programmer MDAP combines technology and art to generate music and audiovisual performance using biofeedback sensors and body movement, brain waves, heart rate, and breathing.
Close to the Edge: The Birth of Hip-Hop Architecture, curated by Sekou Cooke (Helms) – This exhibition surveys the multidimensional influence of Hip-Hop on our urban fabric.
asi asi projects: Design for the People Dinner (ROW) – Los Angeles social house & supper club asi asi projects presents a design dinner, 7 p.m. Saturday, June 24 on the rooftop at ROW DTLA. The dinner features a four-course, family-style menu prepared by “Cambodian Cowboy” Chef Chad Phuong and gifting by Converse, the most iconic sneaker in the world. A guest from the design community will be seated at each table to facilitate conversation and connectivity. Tickets are $125 per person.
