This Thanksgiving, give thanks for health, community and fun by participating in one of these fantastic turkey trots in California. Whether you’re a seasoned runner or a casual walker, these events promise to kickstart your holiday season.

Nov. 23: Dana Point Turkey Trot

Dana Point

Run the race before stuffing your face at Dana Point Turkey Trot. There are a variety of courses to choose from, including a 5K, 10K, a 15K combo or a kid’s one-mile “Gobble Wobble.” The race will take place at Dana Point Harbor, with stunning ocean views and a refreshing sea breeze. After the race, be sure to stick around for the costume contest, live music and a goodie bag. With a turkey-themed medal and race bib to commemorate your run, you’ll have a piece of Thanksgiving to take home. 
Fees: $43 for 5K; $48 for 10K; $58 for 15K; $20 for the kid’s one-mile Gobble Wobble.

San Jose

The Silicon Valley Turkey Trot is not just a race; it’s a community celebration. With over 20,000 participants each year, this event is one of the largest turkey trots in California. Choose between a 5K or 10K run or even a kid’s fun run. Proceeds from the event support local charities that help the less fortunate in the region, including Second Harvest of Silicon Valley, Second Harvest Food Bank, HealthTrust and Healthier Kids Foundation. A kid’s fun zone is available for little ones who aren’t making the trek, and other fun activities, including costume contests, will also take place. 
Fees: $50 for 5K and 10K; $30 for kid’s fun run (ages 2 to 7).

This event not only promotes a healthy lifestyle but also raises funds for The Midnight Mission, an organization helping those experiencing homelessness. Enjoy stunning views of Downtown LA while you run, jog or walk the 5K or 10K course. Plus, there’s a costume contest for the most festive trotters and a “Widdle Wobble” for little ones. All finishers can enjoy a T-shirt prize, medal, live music performances and bites upon completion.

For those in the East Bay, Concord Turkey Trot 5K is a great way to start your Thanksgiving morning. This family-friendly run offers a scenic course that takes you through the picturesque streets of Concord and Newhall Park. With all age groups welcome, it’s a perfect event to include everyone in your family’s Turkey Day festivities. Runners will even receive a custom medal and T-shirt to commemorate their trot through this delightful East Bay town. 
Fees: $39 for 5K; $129 for families of four; $5 for the kid’s run.

Oakland Turkey Trot

The only turkey trot to take place in Oakland, Oakland Turkey Trot is a festive event at the iconic Lake Merritt area and offers a beautiful course to run or walk. With multiple race options, including a 5K run/walk and a kid’s dash, there’s something for all running levels. Proceeds from the Oakland Turkey Trot support local charities, ensuring your trot contributes to a great cause. The kid’s run will benefit Oakland Zoo, while the 5K run/walk will benefit Oakland Public Education Fund and Alameda County Community Food Bank. Plus, enjoy the vibrant atmosphere, costumes and local music that make this event uniquely Oakland.
Fees: $59 for 5K; $49 for youth 5K; $19 for the kid’s run (prices increase after Nov. 19).
