Born and raised in Östersund, Sweden, founder and CEO of Rise & Shine Hospitality Group, Johan Engman, moved to San Diego in 1997 at 16 years old. He started as a dishwasher in a restaurant and worked his way up to eventually open his first restaurant in 2008. Breakfast Company was added to the portfolio in 2019, and it has been a great success.
The vibrant colors, neon signs and eclectic furniture make Breakfast Company an enjoyable and unique brunch spot in San Diego. The Gaslamp location is right in the heart of Downtown San Diego, and the Mission Valley location offers expansive outdoor seating.
Rise & Shine Hospitality Group’s Executive Chef Daniel Villegas developed a brunch menu that truly has something for everyone. If you’re looking for classic brunch options, Breakfast Company offers all the favorites, including buttermilk waffles, steak and eggs, an all-American breakfast and omelets. If you have a sweet tooth, we highly recommend the Breakfast Co. Flight. Mix and match any three pancakes, waffles or French toast. Decadent and exciting options include s’mores waffles, tiramisu pancakes and churro french toast.
Savory options that are a must-try at Breakfast Company are plentiful. The fried rice benedict is a fan favorite, made with crispy ham, sambal hollandaise, pickled radish salad and two poached eggs, served with house potatoes. Other standouts include the chilaquiles suizos, shrimp enmoladas, the brioche breakfast sammie and chicken confit and grits.
Breakfast Company also serves vegan options using plant-based eggs, gluten-free pancakes and healthier dishes such as a chai pudding bowl and yogurt bowl.
Make it a boozy brunch with the restaurant’s very own Breakfast Company Prosecco. This all-natural prosecco is specially imported from Domus Vini, a family-owned and -operated vineyard in Verona, Italy, that has specialized in making prosecco for over 400 years. Make it a mimosa with fresh-squeezed OJ, grapefruit, cranberry, pineapple or apple juice. There is also a variety of unique breakfast cocktails to choose from, as well as classic Bloody Marys.
