Pâtisserie Mélanie

From a dreamy morning café to a delicate happy hour bar, Pâtisserie Mélanie delivers on a much-kneaded French experience in San Diego’s North Park neighborhood.

What started as a dream of opening a French bakery for Melanie Dunn became a reality back in 2018 when she opened her first location of Pâtisserie Mélanie. After an incredibly successful launch in the Hillcrest neighborhood, Dunn sought after a reimagination of what would become North Park’s most popular Parisian café.

Her sweet dream began to materialize when she locked in her lease in 2020. As one can imagine, that timeline was met with quite the challenge; however, she took the pandemic to roll out all the details and sprinkle in a few homemade touches before opening her doors once again in April of 2023.

Working with award-winning architect, Tony Garcia, Dunn proved to not only be a master of design in the kitchen, but also in the intentional build-out of the restaurant itself. Emulating a true Parisian café, Dunn and Garcia curated an aesthetic that is open and airy, allowing aromas and conversation to flow simultaneously.

Located in the heart of one of San Diego’s top dining districts, Pâtisserie Mélanie debuted with a morning menu that was sure to wake up the neighborhood. From coffee that creates connections to palatable pastries that penetrate the air, it’s no surprise that there’s a line that wraps around the block every day.

As pastries flew off the tray, residents and guests alike were hungry for more. In July of 2023, Dunn launched her signature happy hour featuring a simple, yet delectable selection of wines, beer, charcuterie and Le Royale with cheese – a savory burger and fry platter that is 100 percent handmade from the dough to the dips.

The continued success of Pâtisserie Mélanie allows Dunn to keep expanding her vision from a breakfast bistro to an all-day eatery concept. As the dough and the popularity continue to rise, San Diegans should expect to see a dinner menu and private events debut in the near future. For now, it’s easy to say that Pâtisserie Mélanie has everyone’s tastebuds (and attention) at their merci.
