Ponto Lago is the signature restaurant at North County San Diego‘s Park Hyatt Aviara, which is situated on more than 200 lush acres adjacent to the Batiquitos Lagoon with breathtaking ocean views. The ambiance of Ponto Lago exudes both relaxation and sophistication, with modern finishes and an open kitchen that lets the food really take center stage. The restaurant’s design seamlessly blends a modern aesthetic with coastal charm, making it a perfect spot for everything from a romantic dinner to a lively celebration with friends and family.

Now led by Carlos A. Batista, a 20-plus-year culinary and beverage industry veteran, the Ponto Lago menu features bold flavors with Baja-inspired seafood and cuisine. Seafood is the star on this menu, with some of our favorite dishes to start the meal being the smoked hamachi (which is also a beautifully Instagrammable presentation) and the grilled octopus. The grilled octopus melts in your mouth, perfectly cooked and paired with flavorful ingredients including chorizo, chicken chicharrones, saffron aioli and candied citrus.

For entrees, the lobster pibil comes highly recommended and we could see why. Paired with a black bean puree, epazote and wood-fired avocado, it is a lovely medley of flavors. One of its most popular dishes is the seafood paella, which includes prawns, clams, a catch of the day, Spanish chorizo and aioli. This is another beautiful presentation that is packed with flavor.

Save room for dessert and order the Ponto churros, served with a spiced Mayan chocolate sauce and mixed berry compote.

Ponto Lago is also open for breakfast daily and recently launched a “Baja Brunch” every Sunday. This special experience is based on coastal cuisine and hand-crafted cocktails. This unique brunch features a rotating menu with dishes such as concha french toast, chilaquiles, machaca, oysters, ceviche, paella, fresh churros, dulce de leche gateaux, Mexican hot chocolate, margarita flights, build-your-own Baja Bloody Mary, an extensive selection of tequilas and mezcals, and more.

Ponto Lago is also known for its specialty cocktails composed of mezcal and tequila. The Smoking Beauty is exactly that – a beautiful cocktail with a smoky mezcal flavor. It is made with hibiscus-infused Alipus mezcal, Licor 43, vanilla bean, lemon and topped with egg white to balance the smokiness. The Oaxacan Old Fashioned, featuring Del Maguey San Luis mezcal and Codigo Reposado tequila, is smoked tableside, providing you a little entertainment with your cocktail. There is also a great wine and beer selection, as well as tequila flights.

Ponto Lago is open daily, serving breakfast, 7 to 11 a.m.; dinner, 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.; and “Baja Brunch” on Sundays, 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
