Sept. 6 to Sept. 10: US Open Adaptive Surfing Championships
Taking place at the Oceanside Pier, the sixth-annual US Open Adaptive Surfing Championships will showcase the extreme talents of para surfers, including Oceanside’s hometown hero, Liv Stone. The event is set for the North side of the pier, offering more opportunities for higher scoring and exciting waves. This year, the prize purse has been upgraded to $30,000. Sept. 8 to Sept. 16: Rip Curl WSL Finals
The winner-takes-all Rip Curl WSL Finals is headed to Lower Trestles in San Clemente. The top-five men and top-five women enter the competition, and after 12 must-see heats, one male and female surfer will be named this year’s World Champions. Spectators of the Southern California surfing event are encouraged to dress for comfort and heat with swimwear, sun hats and a good pair of sandals and to bring an umbrella and towels. Sept. 22 to Sept. 24: Nissan Super Girl Surf Pro
Later in the month, the Nissan Super Girl Surf Pro will take place at the Oceanside Pier. The most talented female surfers in the US will head to the Southern California surfing event for thrilling competition and a spectator-friendly surf village (attendance is free!), focused on female empowerment. This large-scale all-women’s action sports, esports and lifestyle event is the only one of its kind in the world. The event features a concert series (with performances from Sean Kingston and Aloe Blacc, to name a few), fitness classes, a female leadership panel discussion, beer and wine garden, a fashion show, a food court and more.
