Owned by Clique Hospitality — the same group that owns Lionfish at the Pendry and Serēa at the Hotel del Coronado — Temaki possesses the same level of reliable quality as the rest of Clique’s portfolio. Temaki Bar Sushi is located in a prime spot in Downtown Encinitas, just steps from the beach and tons of happening restaurants, bars and shops. The restaurant has a modern and inviting atmosphere, with a large sushi bar as its centerpiece, ample wood and modern art throughout (including some very cool Takashi Murakami skateboards near the restrooms).
Temaki Bar Sushi’s menu focuses on hand rolls, which (like everything at Temaki) are freshly prepared to order and can be wrapped in either seaweed or soy paper for $1 more. The restaurant offers a variety of different hand rolls, including classics like California and spicy tuna rolls, as well as more creative options like the Dre’s Pop N’ Rock handroll, which is filled with pop rocks, bang bang shrimp and mango.
In addition to hand rolls, Temaki Bar Sushi also offers a variety of other Japanese staples, such as sashimi, nigiri and udon. A few must-try options include the spicy tuna crispy rice with citrus ponzu, the bluefin tuna toro sashimi and the Super Ninja Bunny roll — a decadent option with blue crab, toro, bubu arare and chives on the inside and topped with brown butter aioli, caviar and truffle oil.
