Toastique Newport Beach

Nestled in the heart of Balboa Island’s Marine Avenue, Toastique elevates the humble slice of bread into a gourmet masterpiece. Toastique first made a name for itself on the East Coast, carving out a niche in the bustling world of breakfast and brunch spots. With its artful combination of wholesome ingredients, innovative recipes and a commitment to quality, California’s first location is sure to delight those who are looking for healthy, great tasting food. With founder Brianna Keefe recognized in Forbes magazine annual “30 Under 30” in 2022, Toastique truly offers something special to Newport Beach.

What used to be considered a buttered, crispy piece of bread has become something else entirely. The avocado, a California favorite in its own right, originally ushered in a new era of food with the creation of avocado toast. While Toastique pays homage to the classic, none of the gourmet toasts on its menu are basic.

We ordered the smoked salmon and the tomato burrata with prosciutto; both toasts are piled high with ingredients and provide generous servings of protein. We highly recommend using a knife and fork! The smoked salmon is made with sourdough toast that is slathered with herbed cream cheese spread, topped with smoked pastrami salmon, arugula, cucumber, pickled onion, capers, toasty seasoning and microgreens and finished with a lemon twist to add a bit of acidity. The salmon tasted fresh and all of the ingredients worked together to create harmonious tastes bite after bite. The tomato burrata option starts with rustico toast that is topped with herbed ricotta, pesto, tomatoes, burrata, basil, olive oil and balsamic glaze. We elected to add prosciutto, and it was absolutely the right choice. This toast is like a giant piece of bruschetta with all the best Italian ingredients.

Toastique isn’t a one-trick pony; its bowls, smoothies and juices are certainly something to talk about. We tried the Black Mystique bowl, made with activated charcoal, blueberry, strawberry, banana and coconut water and topped with granola, kiwi, strawberries, coconut, goji berries and honey drizzle. The flavors mix nicely together, and the granola, coconut and goji berries add a nice crunch. The smoothies are vibrant and filled with fresh fruits, seeds and nutrient powerhouses like spirulina. We tried the smoothie that included one of our favorite things: coffee. The Iced Brew is made with coffee, banana, dates and almond milk to create a creamy, cold java with the perfect amount of sweetness.

Cold pressed every 24 hours, Toastique’s juices taste remarkably fresh. We sipped the Metabolize, which is a blend of cucumber, jalapeno, pineapple, apple and mint. It’s basically a spicy margarita packed with health benefits–need we say more? Additional juice choices aim to help the body detoxify, defend against invaders, radiate beauty, feel better when you’re under the weather and more.

Toastique Newport Beach is open every day, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Toastique has outposts throughout the country, with several on the horizon in California (including Los Angeles and San Jose). For more information, visit www.toastique.com.
