Hometown: I’m originally from Mexico City, now living in Los Angeles.

First job: My first job was at the Museum of Modern Art in Mexico City, where I was an assistant in the communication department. I got to see all the careful process of designing the exhibitions and unpacking the shipped art. Pretty cool!

Favorite ways to spend your free time in CA: I like roller skating at Moonlight Rollerway, going to drag bingo at Hamburger Mary’s or getting piña coladas anywhere I can find them.

Your biggest accomplishment and why: I think starting from scratch in a different country, all by myself, was a pretty intense experience. I see the little place I created for myself here in Los Angeles and can’t help but feel proud. It was a lot, but we’re getting there.

The biggest obstacle you overcame: I suffer from chronic pain due to spine problems. It goes from bearable to absolutely excruciating. I have to overcome it every single day in order to do my tasks, go to grad school, have a social life, you name it. But hey, the show must go on.

Someone who inspires you and why: I think my mom is pretty badass. She is extremely hardworking and successful in everything she does. Plus, she is really cool.

Advice to someone pursuing a career path in what you do: Filmmaking can get very challenging, more often than we would expect. Optimism is everything. Try to laugh through the pain. Attitude is contagious to the whole team, for better or for worse. It can affect the result of the project massively. I like to surround myself with people who I know will keep their heads up all the way throughout. Also, try to crew in as many sets as you can, and get to meet a lot of people. Always be in the picture and don’t lose touch!

Favorite quote: Multiple quotes have stuck with me during all my life. Most recently, one of my classmates wrote “may the unknown never depress you” in one of her presentations. I have been thinking about it ever since. As a very anxious person, it brings me some sort of peace.

Something someone would be surprised to learn about you: I own a lot of toys of Batman’s villain, The Penguin. So many that I could not bring them all when I moved here. My apartment back in Mexico looks like a museum dedicated to him. For real.

What makes someone fabulous: If you think you’re fabulous, then boom- you are. It’s all about being confident in your fabulousness. But fabulous people don’t put anyone else down. We are all equally fabulous.
