Fisher’s San Diego

As the most successful seafood chain south of the border, Grupo Fisher brings Fisher’s San Diego to Little Italy as the first stateside restaurant in the collection.

In 1989, Don Simon had a vision that would forever change the restaurant scene in Mexico. Simon, along with his family, would introduce a contemporary and innovative approach to the seafood industry. Starting with only four tables and 12 menu items, the Simon family grew from a single location north of Mexico City to a conglomerate of seven brands and more than 30 locations, with Fisher’s San Diego debuting as its first US restaurant.

Fisher’s San Diego opened in May 2023 after Nino Franco, nephew of Simon, spent nearly a year and $1 million renovating the 8,700-sq.-ft. former deli space. The newest Grupo Fisher venture is located on Beech and Columbia Streets in Little Italy, a San Diego neighborhood where cuisine and culture converge.

While not everyone may know the backstory of Fisher’s, restaurant-goers will immerse in the story upon arrival. From the moment one is seated in the contemporary dining room or on the modernized patio space, the family dining experience begins. Welcomed by members of the Nino family and with placemats that detail the Simon family journey, the scene is set to invite conversation, share delicacies and create flavorful experiences.

Family-style dining is highly encouraged at Fisher’s San Diego. Ranging from ceviche to a fully stocked raw bar or tacos to tostadas, there’s something for every seafood lover. The signature Fisher’s shrimp appetizer boasts in flavor with a drizzle of house chipotle sauce, cilantro, onion, olive oil and lime – all over an avocado. Paired with the María Mezcal or the spicy mango cocktail classics, the food packs the punch almost as much as the drinks.

While many items are house curations, the simplicity of the rice with seafood entrée capitalizes on everything that Grupo Fisher has to offer: seafood sourced from local waters, a serving size for the whole table and a branded name that exceeds expectations – one bite at a time.

Before closing out the tab, a look at the dessert menu is a must. Catering to the Grupo Fisher roots, the cajeta caramel is a staple in Mexico desserts and has graciously found its way to the first US Fisher’s location.
