True Food Kitchen El Segundo

Extremely true to its name, True Food Kitchen offers special menu items specific to each season, highlighting naturally ripe fruits and vegetables that are full of flavor and nutrients. When you visit one of True Food Kitchen’s nine California locations, you’re able to enjoy a culinary experience while nourishing your body and soul with real, clean ingredients.

True Food Kitchen’s seasonal menu doesn’t stop at food; inventive cocktails made with fall flavors are also featured to complement the dishes. While visiting the El Segundo location, we started with True Story, made with gin, Chareau aloe liqueur, cucumber, snap pea, pineapple juice and lemon. This is a refreshing, light cocktail that we’d happily order a second round of. Plus, we loved the snap pea garnish our server added on top! We also tried Dazzling Eyes, which is made with rum, coconut, carrot juice and Thai basil. Imagine your morning root juice–but with rum. The Dazzling Eyes will make you feel like you’re drinking to your health.

For our starter, we chose the wild-caught tuna lettuce wraps, made with bibb lettuce, tataki rice, pomegranate relish and a spicy chili-garlic crunch. Each bite is full of heat from the chili-garlic crunch with a sweet finish from the pomegranate relish. This starter is unique and full of different textures and tastes that we really enjoyed.

The chopped salad is on the menu year-round, and it’s easy to understand why. A mix of medjool dates, jicama, organic apples, white cheddar, farro, dried cranberries and Marcona almonds and topped with Champagne vinaigrette, all of the ingredients marry together perfectly. When you’re visiting for lunch, add chicken to your salad and you will be extremely satisfied.

The roasted butternut squash pizza is an item True Foodies look forward to all year. A Neopolitan-style crust is topped with roasted butternut squash, kale, caramelized onions and cranberries and topped with generous dollops of lemon-almond ricotta. While it’s still very warm in California, this pizza made us feel all of the fall feels!

I think we can all agree meatloaf has a bad rap. When you hear “meatloaf,” you typically think of a block of meat that may or may not be very dry. True Food Kitchen’s Not Your Mama’s Meatloaf is turning that assumption on its head. Made with organic grass-fed beef, the meatloaf is extremely tender and flavorful. Paired with mushroom jus, herb-roasted fingerling potatoes and honey-roasted carrots, we guarantee there won’t be one drop left on the plate.

We love a good carrot cake, and True Food Kitchen’s is great. The traditionally made carrot cake is topped with ricotta frosting and toasted walnuts and served with a scoop of vegan vanilla ice cream. We find it amazing how ricotta can be used for both sweet and savory, and True Food Kitchen nails it with every dish. Every bite was full of rich and creamy frosting and moist, spiced cake.
