Fisher’s Unveils First U.S. Location in San Diego

International restaurant company Fisher’s has been a leader in Mexico’s seafood industry since 1989. Known for serving Mexican-inspired seafood cuisine that’s packed with vibrant flavors, the chain recently made a splash stateside, opening its first U.S. eatery in San Diego’s Little Italy neighborhood in late May.

“We are thrilled to finally bring Fisher’s to San Diego,” managing partner Nino Franco says in a press release announcing the highly anticipated opening. “We know that San Diego is a city that appreciates fresh, high-quality seafood, and we are excited to be a part of the culinary scene here.”

Fisher’s San Diego occupies the 8,700-sq.-ft. former Roma Urban Market location on the corner of Beech and Columbia streets. It includes a full-service dining room and an outdoor patio.

The family-run Grupo Fisher, the restaurant’s parent company, launched in Mexico City as a humble four-table cafe with only 12 cold items on its menu. It quickly grew into the largest seafood chain in the country and has since expanded into a dining empire with seven brands and 31 locations worldwide. It most recently debuted in Madrid, Spain, in 2022.

The open-concept Fisher’s San Diego features a relaxed, modern vibe, with midcentury-style seating in neutral shades, brass light fixtures and a large L-shaped corner bar.

Contemporary coastal dishes dominate the menu. Selections include a raw bar; a selection of seafood tacos and tostadas; seafood pastas, soups and sandwiches; and fish and shrimp entrees. According to Franco, some best-sellers include Fisher’s tacos, available in shrimp, lobster and fish; aguachile, or shrimp ceviche, with tatemado (roasted) habanero sauce; battered and fried rock spicy shrimp; and spicy tuna tostadas. All seafood is fresh-caught and processed at Fisher’s own production plant.

Fisher’s San Diego is open Monday and Tuesday, noon to 8 p.m.; Wednesday, noon to 9 p.m.; Thursday, noon to 11 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.; and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Reservations are recommended. For more information, visit fishers-sandiego.com.
