Petit Soleil Now Open in San Luis Obispo

Originally constructed in 1952, Petit Soleil, a quaint bed and breakfast in San Luis Obispo, offers travelers a taste of European elegance with Californian flair. The property recently underwent a transformation, guided by the vision of the Good Lion Hospitality team and executed by MN Studios, breathing new life into the beloved hotel.

Co-founders Misty Orman Ristaino and Brandon Ristaino, the creative minds behind the acclaimed Good Lion Hospitality group, envisioned a boutique hotel experience that seamlessly blends cocktails, culinary delights and warm hospitality.

“Brandon and I have desired and dreamed of opening or acquiring a boutique hotel with a focus on cocktails since before we opened The Good Lion together in 2014. We fell in love with San Luis Obispo, just as we fell in love with Santa Barbara,” says Orman Ristaino, in a recent press release.

With a deep appreciation for the property’s history and character, the Good Lion Hospitality team embarked on the remodeling process, infusing each of the 17 rooms with vibrant fabrics, European touches and modern amenities. The result is a collection of intimate spaces, each with a distinct personality while maintaining a cohesive sense of European charm.

“SLO has been one of our favorite California cities to get away to. Nestled in wine country with the ocean nearby and mountain views; it is a special little town. We stayed at the Petit Soleil some years ago and fell in love with its European charm and quaintness. We enjoyed getting to know the previous owners John and Diane, and building upon their legacy and success felt like a perfect opportunity for us to bring our dream of a bed and beverage concept to life,” says Orman Ristaino, in a press release.

From Bellino Fine Linens to organic bath products by Sangre de Fruta, no detail was overlooked in ensuring the comfort and luxury of Petit Soleil’s guests. The elevated mini-bars feature a curated selection of local spirits, custom-made bottled cocktails and bar tools, inviting guests to indulge in the art of cocktail making from the comfort of their rooms.

However, Petit Soleil offers more than just a place to rest. The central dining and cocktail area, adorned with navy velvet banquettes and French doors, invites guests to savor complimentary breakfast or unwind with a complimentary aperitif hour. Breakfast features a rotating menu ranging from blueberry pancakes to seasonal veggie frittatas, alongside fresh-baked pastries, croissants from Front Porch Bakery, an assortment of farmer’s market produce and fruit and pour-over coffee from locally sourced beans by Coastal Coffee Collective. In addition, guests can partake in the aperitif hour showcasing Cal Poly cheeses, Alle-Pia Cured meats, savory house-made baked goods, seasonal fruit, a house-made spicy nut mix and an assortment of local and French wines personally selected by Master Sommelier Lenka Davis.

The reimagined patio captures the essence of the French Riviera, providing an ideal setting for private events or casual gatherings under the stars. Beyond its enchanting interiors, Petit Soleil is in a prime location, just a short stroll from Downtown San Luis Obispo. Guests are encouraged to explore the charm of the Central Coast, with bike rentals soon to be offered for added convenience.

Petit Soleil has exciting plans for further expansion, including the addition of a new cocktail bar and restaurant coming in spring 2024, followed by the introduction of additional rooms in the fall. With rates starting at $209 on weekdays and $299 on weekends and holidays, Petit Soleil invites travelers to experience the epitome of boutique hospitality in Central California.
